More About Hats

17 December 2008 No Comment

It seems that those “an animal is eating my head” hats that I posted about yesterday have a history in Asia. Marc pointed me toward this site, which shows “childrens hats” from China (ranging from 50-150 years old) that look quite similar to the polyester plush versions that I see every day here in Korea.  Some of the Chinese ones are really beautiful, and my co-teacher has just informed me that there are similar traditional silk hats here in Korea.  Here are a few favourites from that site:

While I’ve been here in Korea, I’ve been trying to think of something to bring back that would be unique and neat, to remind me of my time here in Korea.  If I see silk hats like these on sale here as we get closer to the Lunar New Year, I might consider buying one as my souvenir from my time here.  They’re beautiful, and definitely unique.
