From A Geek in Korea: A Very Korean Experience
I see stuff like that happen almost every day in Korea, and it never ceases to boggle my mind. He does, though, point out something I have written about a few times – that many of us expats suspect that many of the oddities of Korean culture have to do with the fact that most of the current older generation (age 50 and above) grew up either during the Korean War or in the aftermath, and as such, they grew up as dirt-road dwelling peasants and now have to adapt to this new, modern Korea.
Anyway. Just give it a read. At the very least, it’s funny.

Wow, that was an awesome story! At least Hefei people have a proper fear of cars!
The lack of sidewalks here seems to have made people fearless rather than afraid.
