For being a rural backwater, Jindo actually has quite a lot to offer, culture-wise. We have three fortresses (one of which is absolutely massive), three art galleries, a temple complex, one of Korea’s three national performance centers (because the “national dance of Korea” is apparently actually from Jindo), 4 good beaches, and, of course, the famous Jindo dogs.
One of my favourite spots on the island is Ssangyesa, the temple complex (and also the site of one of the art galleries). ”My dog” lives across the road (along with a horse owned by the same family), and it’s one of the only places on the island with actual grass. I like to go there and sit under the tree in front of the temple and read. Or at least, I did, back before it got cold. It’s a nice place though, and rather quiet. It’s not really a tourist attraction, and I usually only see 2-3 other people, at most, when I’m there for an hour or so.
When Marc came to visit me in the summer, one of the places I took him was Ssangyesa, and I never got around to posting the photos on my Korea blog. So, I feel that it’s worthwhile to do so now. These photos are from the temple and immediately surrounding area, and the guy in the photos is my boyfriend Marc.
Enjoy!
