An Afternoon at the Annapolis Cup

A few weeks ago I was lucky to be invited to attend the annual croquet game between St. Johns College and the US Naval Academy, often called the Annapolis Cup.  It’s a lighthearted affair, with everyone in attendance dressing up either in vintage finery or the most outlandishly preppy thing they can find (informally, the preps are generally in support of the Naval Academy, and the dandies are for St. Johns).

It was a lot of fun, and as I remarked to more than one person, it was very odd to be surrounded by so many people dressed like, well, upper class assholes, without being able to tell if it was in earnest or in mockery.  The weather was absolutely perfect, and it was a great excuse to hang out with some of my friends down in Annapolis (who are, by and large, alumni from St. Johns) while also partaking in some world class people-watching.

As you might expect, I had my camera on me all day, and snapped photos of some of the people whose fashion caught my eye.  Enjoy.
